Frequently Asked Questions
What is special about LifeSentry?
LifeSentry allows two-way voice communication to a central station of your choice. The pendant is the world’s smallest two-way voice communicator for the PERS industry.
What communication technology is used?
LifeSentry uses DECT technology at 1.9 GHz. This allows for super clear duplex voice communication to the central station.
Do you have to be near the base station for someone to hear you?
No! Because LifeSentry has the speakerphone right in the pendant – you can be anywhere in and around your home. The pendant range is up to 600 feet in a free-space environment! It will cover the typical Canadian home and even a short distance outside your home into your yard.
Can I test the range?
Yes. Simply use the test button on the back of LifeSentry. Hold the button in for 4 seconds and you will hear a system check. If it says “All systems are OK”, then you are within range of the base unit. You can walk around your home and test this feature at any location to see if it will work from there.
How do I install LifeSentry?
Just plug it into your existing phone jack. The unit is fully programmed for you. Programming can even be done or options can be changed remotely over the telephone.
Is LifeSentry legal to use?
Yes! The LifeSentry is completely legal to use in all Provinces.
Does LifeSentry use a battery?
Yes, the LifeSentry pendant uses a special rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. There are 2 batteries included. One is in the pendant being used, while the other is charging in the base charging station. The battery standby time is 4-6 months and it can be tested at any time by pushing the test button on the pendant. When the battery test shows that the battery is low, you simply exchange the battery with the second battery that is charging in the base unit. Just swap the two batteries around every few months.
Is the Pendant supervised?
Yes! The pendants and EWC “Emergency Wall Communicators” are fully supervised. They report to the base unit every 13 hours to check their battery condition and communication. If there is a problem, the base unit will automatically notify the central station of the problem.
How can I deal with power outages?
The LifeSentry comes with 4 rechargeable batteries that are installed in the base unit. These batteries are constantly being charged while the base is plugged in the wall outlet. When the power fails, the LifeSentry automatically switches over to these rechargeable batteries which will provide over 24 + hours of back-up protection. There is no maintenance needed for these backup batteries.
How many pendants can be learned to one base unit:
You can learn 4 pendants to one base unit. Actually, you can learn any combination of up to 4 pendants and “Emergency Wall Communicators” into this system.
How do you end an emergency call?
There are 3 ways to end the call:
- Pushing the gray System Test button on the back of the pendant ends the call, hangs up and resets.
- The central station operator can end the call by pressing “9”.
- If the LifeSentry pendant detects 3 minutes of silence, it will automatically hang up and reset.
How do I know the programming is successful?
When you connect the unit to the phone jack and wall outlet, we ask that you test the unit by pressing and holding the call button for two seconds. If the unit is operating successfully you will reach the call centre and be able to confirm that the unit is operating properly.
Is LifeSentry water resistant?
Yes, the LifeSentry can be used in the shower. The pendant meets the industry standard IPX-5 test for water-resistance.
What is the warranty on LifeSentry?
